"Every Breath You Take: Appreciating the Common Air Pollutant Mixtures in Urban and Industrially Impacted Air and Their Health Impacts."
summary OF THE discussion paper (ENGLISH)
Air quality regulations consider one pollutant at time despite wide recognition that in each breath we inhale a complex, multipollutant mixture. Advancing our understanding of air pollution impacts requires consideration of what is in the mixture, what contributes to it and what are the implications of single pollutant thinking. This lecture will provide an overview of air pollution and health, the characterization of complex mixtures from local to global scales and discuss how in health research single pollutants represent mixtures and show how satellite data are helping appreciate observed variability in fine particulate matter (PM2.5) associations with acute mortality.
