URMODEL
Real-time simulation of water quality in distribution networks

This project the creation of an online tool the Garaizar distribution system to support its operation. The tool the presence of chlorine and disinfection byproducts at all points in the system in real time, enabling advanced monitoring of the network. In addition, it will allow for the simulation-based analysis of how potential changes in the network operational strategy will affect the concentration of these compounds.
Objective
The goal of project to provide the Bilbao-Bizkaia Water Consortium with a digital twin of its water distribution networks, enabling it to operate the network more safely and efficiently.

core topic
WHY IS THIS project NECESSARY?
This project necessary because financial aid that drinking water reaches households with the appropriate quality and safety standards. Although the water is disinfected before distribution, changes in the concentration of chlorine and the byproducts generated during disinfection network occur as the water travels through the network . Maintaining these compounds within appropriate levels is essential to protect public health and comply with rules and regulations .
The tool as part of the project monitor these parameters in real time and predict how different management decisions will affect water quality. This will enable operators to anticipate potential problems, optimize the network operation network make faster and more accurate decisions, contributing to more efficient and sustainable management of the drinking water supply.
WHAT SOLUTIONS IS THE project EXPLORING?
The project develop a model capable of simulating the behavior of water throughout the entire network . The tool the water treatment plant to operate safely and efficiently. With this information, water management officials will be able to test different operational scenarios before implementing them in the network , evaluating the best strategy for maintaining water quality. In this way, the model safer, more efficient, and more sustainable operation of the water treatment plant, helping to optimize the use of resources and ensure that the water remains in proper condition throughout its entire journey.
how does this project affect society?
This project ensure that the population has access to safe, high-quality drinking water, even in situations where the water arriving at the water treatment plant is of poorer quality due to events such as heavy rains, droughts, or changes in the quality of water sources. Thanks to the tool , managers will be able to anticipate these scenarios and adapt the treatment and distribution process to maintain water quality at all times. This not only improves the security of the supply and protects public health, but also enables more efficient management of the network, reducing risks, optimizing resources, and increasing the ability to respond to unforeseen situations related to the water supply.
