research altruism
Does altruism exist, and if so, how is it represented in our brains?
Now you can help us find the answers!
At the University of Navarra, we are looking for young adults to participate in a study that is part of research European research SUSTAINWELL research project .
What does it involve?
During a 45- to 60-minute session in the scanner (at the Radiology Department of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra Pamplona), you will be asked to decide whether or not to donate money or time to NGOs. You will also be asked to fill in short questionnaires (MINI and IRI).
You'll have the chance to receive a €30 bonus.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE
Spanish-speaking young adults between the ages of 18 and 35.
No history of neurological or psychiatric conditions.
Have no contraindications for an MRI (such as a pacemaker, metal implants, pregnancy, etc.)
ABOUT THE research
This project a behavioral and neuroscientific study (using functional magnetic resonance imaging) designed to investigate the instructions underlying the donation of time or money to nonprofit organizations that serve people of various ages. This research two factors: the type of donation (money or time) and the recipient of the donation (intra- or intergenerational).
The specific objectives of this study are as follows:

Analyze the difference in the brain activation (“neural correlates”) when deciding to donate time versus when deciding to donate money.

To study the neural correlates intra-generational and intergenerational gifts (whether larger or smaller).
final, this study will contribute to a better understanding of the instructions underlying altruism, going beyond the classic experimental paradigms used today (the dictator game and its variants), which have their limitations.
To achieve these objectives, participants will take part in a single scanner session, lasting approximately 45 minutes in total, during which they will perform a decision-making task. This task, developed by our research group , will consist of making dichotomous decisions (A or B) in which the participant must choose between donating a specific amount of money or time to the proposal organization, with the alternative option of donating nothing (€0 or 0 hours).
EXCLUSION CRITERIA
As mentioned above, one exclusion criterion for participation in this experiment is having subject neurological or psychiatric condition. This criterion will be assessed using the MINI interview (Sheehan et al., 2000).
A questionnaire will also be administered questionnaire identify any contraindications for the MRI scanner (metal particles in the body, pacemakers, pregnancy, etc.). To fill in study, participants will be asked fill in the “Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI),” a scale already validated in Spanish that measures prosocial attitudes, which will serve as a covariate for interpreting the neuroimaging findings.
