ABOUT US

The Public discourse research group focuses on the application of linguistics and discourse analysis to the social issues of our time.

We strive for excellence in the development of methodologies and their intersection to better understand human communication in its linguistic and multimodal aspects. In particular, we believe in the complementary nature of quantitative and qualitative methodologies to understand and solve the complex problems facing our society. 

Researchers at Public discourse apply their knowledge of various languages and their theoretical expertise across different disciplines (sociolinguistics, cognitive linguistics, corpus linguistics, pragmatics, discourse analysis, multimodality, and narrative analysis, etc.) to analyze social, political, professional, and media discourses. This approach allows us to explore topics as diverse as Arab migration in Navarra, adolescents at risk of social exclusion, the representation of armed conflicts in the media, digital misogyny, and advances in bilingual teaching programs.

Our group is open and international in nature. Every year, researchers from different countries visit us for stays of varying lengths. We welcome candidates who wish to conduct their PhD or postdoctoral research with us through national and international funding calls and grants.
