A humanist compass in a technological world
This report It includes the activity and milestones achieved by the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) throughout the 2025-26 academic year, following the three pillars of the University of Navarra's 25-30 Strategy .
One of the keys is undoubtedly talent : thanks to the commitment, professionalism, and exceptional research capabilities of our team, we have continued to develop innovative projects in various areas of knowledge united by a vocation for service. Many of them have been recognized with prestigious awards and scholarships.
In the field of science , we have 26 projects of research in force, supported by European and national calls for proposals, all of them driven from an interdisciplinary perspective. Among our milestones, we highlight the redesignation of the ATLANTES Global Observatory of Palliative Care as a WHO collaborating center and the publication of the first world map and global ranking of palliative care; the holding of activities that promote sustainable aging from the Chair IDEA of New Longevities; and the inauguration of the Chair Gustavo Cisneros, with the aim of promoting leadership and development economic in Latin America.
Finally, we would like to highlight the commitment of all those individuals, institutions, and organizations that continue to support and trust in our institution. We appreciate their support and confidence, which allows us to thrive. financial aid to contribute, from the Humanities and the social sciences, to forge a more committed and humane society, capable of facing contemporary challenges with a holistic vision.
Health and Care
The ATLANTES Global Observatory on Palliative Care has been redesignated as a WHO (World Health Organization) collaborating center for the development global palliative care initiative until 2030. It is one of five centers worldwide dedicated to the field of palliative care, along with those located in the United Kingdom, Russia, India, and Korea. Spain participates in this initiative. network with eleven other organizations, dedicated to other health disciplines.
First world map of palliative care
ATLANTES has also published the first World Map of palliative care and the first Global Ranking , as well as regional palliative care atlases for Africa , the Eastern Mediterranean , and the Americas . These complement those presented last year, dedicated to the Asia-Pacific and European regions.
Aging and intergenerational solidarity
Invited by the Chair IDEA of New Longevities, Pearl Dykstra, professor emerita of empirical sociology at Erasmus University (Rotterdam), gave the lecture titled ' Sustainable Aging: Recognizing the Interdependence Between Generations '.
Inauguration of the Chair Gustavo Cisneros
In partnership Together with the Cisneros family, the ICS has created the Gustavo Cisneros Chair , an academic platform that will study in depth the role of Gustavo Cisneros's business leadership in the development economic and social aspects of Latin America and seeks to foster an entrepreneurial spirit in new generations.

Carmen Callizo received the scholarship Juan de la Cierva of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities of the Government of Spain
Fabian Carrión has been awarded the award National Science and Technology Award 2025, in the accredited specialization researcher novel, awarded by the Ministry of Popular Power for Science and Technology of Venezuela (MINCYT); and with the award Science Student 2025 in the category postgraduate program , awarded by the Academy of Physical, Mathematical and Natural Sciences (ACFIMAN) of Venezuela.

Carlos Chaccour received the certificate R3 as state recognition of a consolidated research career.
Researchers Charo Sádaba, María Arantzamendi, Ruth Breeze, Vilma Tripodoro and Inés Olza have been recognized in the CSIC ranking of scientists with the greatest impact in 2026 .

Luis Alberiko Gil-Alaña has been recognized as one of the most cited researchers according to the Stanford ranking and the CSIC ranking.

Mª Cruz Díaz de Terán has been appointed vice president of the International Network of Women Leaders.
Martín Aisa Gómez has obtained a prestigious scholarship Fulbright to undertake stays of research in the U.S.
