At a workshop by professional dedication and innovation, the School of Pharmacy and Nutrition at the University of Navarra submission the 2026 Nafarco Awards. The event, which took place during the closing ceremony of congress , served to highlight the partnership academia and community pharmacy, recognizing both the professor work professor the faculty and the entrepreneurial spirit of the students.
The panel of speakers included Rosalía Baena, Vice President Student Affairs and International Relations; María Javier Ramírez, Dean of the Faculty; Juan Luis Sagaseta de Ilúrdoz, President of Nafarco; and Pilar Ezpeleta, board member high school of Pharmacists of Navarra (COFNA).
Recognition for teaching: María Gironés, Outstanding Tutor
The 5thTutor award was presented to María Gironés Narvalaz, a community pharmacist in Pamplona. The Faculty highlighted her exceptional work and her commitment to the training of students. Guadalupe Beitia, manager Supervised Internships, described the awardee as a professional who “inspires students with a passion for the daily work of the pharmacist behind the counter,” highlighting her profile and creative profile on social media.
Upon receiving the award, Gironés expressed her pride in this recognition, which coincides with the 25th anniversary of her own graduation: “I’m taking this award back to my little pharmacy with great pride... I dedicate it to the students, because they sometimes don’t realize that they also give us so much; we learn a lot from them.”
Innovation from the Classroom: Best Initiatives in Clinical Rotations
Now in its fourth year, the Best Initiatives Awards recognized projects aimed at improving patient care and efficiency in clinical training sites.
The award went to Maribel Vidondo Gonzalo for her work implementing a cardiovascular risk stratification system in a community pharmacy. Vidondo emphasized that projects like this aim to provideapproach patient-centered and patient-focusedapproach ” and thanked her internship pharmacy for believing in the idea from the start.
As for the award Teams, it went to Alejandra Martínez-Brocal Diezand Mónica Idoate Domenech for their plan to optimize the storage of high-risk electrolytes at Gregorio Marañón Hospital in Madrid. The students expressed their gratitude for these initiatives, which “really motivate students to do their best.”
A Bridge to a Professional Future
During the ceremony, Juan Luis Sagaseta de Ilúrdoz, president of Nafarco, encouraged the new pharmacists to be collaborative in their professional lives: “Hold this magnificent profession of pharmacy in high esteem... I wish you all the best in your professional lives.”
For her part, Dean María Javier Ramírez emphasized that the goal is “to work hand in hand with today’s professionals to train the pharmacists of the future,” noting that these placements are an essential component of the degree scroll.
The event concluded with remarks by Pilar Ezpeleta (COFNA), who noted that the award winners’ commitment and eagerness to learn are a “wonderful sign for the future of our profession,” followed by the official closing of congress by Vice President Baena.
