Álvaro Uribe's political biography

framework The political degree program of Álvaro Uribe must be understood in the context of the long internal armed conflict suffered by Colombian society, where the actions undertaken by guerrillas, paramilitary groups and drug trafficking cartels had been tormenting the country for several decades. Since the 1980s, the government tried with little success on successive occasions to reach a peace agreement with these groups agreement .

In 2002, Álvaro Uribe was elected with the promise of rescuing a country in crisis and a state apparatus incapable of bringing order to the country. The election of the new president also put an end to more than a hundred years of bipartisanship, where conservatives and liberals had dominated the country's political scene. In the international context, Uribe's election also had a special importance, since it consolidated Colombia in a position opposed to its South American neighbors, which at that time were turning to the left.

This thesis seeks to delve into the political change that took place in Colombia during Uribe's eight years in office, focusing on the main lines of his mandate, security, attracting investment as a way to generate economic development and the creation of social policies, in order to get the country back on its feet.
