Leisure in wartime: between charity, oblivion and enlightenment
The resource to leisure fulfilled many purposes, among them the raising of funds for the organizations involved in the war through charitable acts of all kinds subject; the staging of the values defended by each side or the mere search for evasion in the midst of a hostile and precarious reality. Leisure was not, therefore, something anecdotal or merely superficial, but showed all the potential it had been developing as a factor of social cohesion and transmission of values since the end of the 19th century.
