Daniel Vega Pérez de Arlucea
Director Exhibitions and Conservation Technician at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao
Daniel Vega was born in Bilbao in 1971. graduate in Fine Arts (specialization program Conservation-Restoration of Works of Art) at the University of the Basque Country, he later studied programs of study at the Complutense University of Madrid (Master in New Technologies and Practices for the Conservation and Restoration of Contemporary Art) and at the University of Leicester (Postgraduate Diploma in Museum Studies). In 2016 he was selected to participate in the Getty Leadership Institute's Executive Education Program for Museum Leaders.
In 1998 he joined the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao team. In 2001 he was appointed Deputy Director for the Organisation of Artistic Content, taking over the management of Departments for conservation, design and assembly, and registration. In 2011 he created department for exhibition coordination and implemented a new transversal methodology of management by projects for temporary exhibitions. This has made it possible to organise the work processes more efficiently and optimise human and economic resources, increase the scope of the museum's exhibition programme, conceive and develop a greater number of issue own projects, and develop and consolidate a wide-ranging international network of partners and collaborators.
Since 2001 it has organised more than a hundred exhibitions of modern and contemporary art and has led other projects core topic for the museum such as the design and construction of an external storeroom for works of art, research programmes around self-oxidising steel and the conservation of works with technological components, or the recent implementation of LED technology for the lighting of temporary exhibitions and the permanent collection.
In April 2018 he was appointed Director Exhibition and Conservation Technician.
He has been a member of committee Organiser of group IEO (International Exhibition Organizers) since 2008.
