Karina Marotta
General Coordinator of Conservation of the Museo del Prado
Karina MAROTTA (Madrid, 1967) has a degree in Art History with Degree from the Complutense University of Madrid. In 1998, she joined the Faculty of Museum Curators.
As manager of area of Exhibitions of the Museo del Prado, she has been in charge of organizing and managing both the numerous exhibitions presented at the Museum since that date and the exhibitions organized by the Prado in other parts of Spain (Prado Itinerant) and the world (Prado International), highlighting for their organizational complexity and management the latter, held in Japan (2006, 2012, 2018), China (2007), Russia (2011), Australia (2012 and 2014) or Lithuania (2017). In addition, he has coordinated all the works of rearrangement of works from the Museum's permanent collection derived from the opening of the Museum's extension in 2007.
From 2005 until 2015 he was a member of the committee Organizer of the international group IEO (International Exhibitions Organizers).
In June 2015 she was appointed General Conservation Coordinator of the Museum, position which she currently holds. Among her competencies are the planning, coordination, management and supervision of the Conservation areas of the Museum, i.e. those dedicated to Exhibitions, Permanent Collection and Register of Works of Art; Library Services, file and Documentation, as well as tutoring the management of the Restoration Workshop and the area of Edition. He is also a member of the museographic committee for the rehabilitation of the future Salón de Reinos, a 17th century building that will be part of the Prado Museum from 2022, after its rehabilitation by Foster and Partners and Carlos Rubio.
