The University of Navarra’s School of Film and Television ( School of Communication ) has left an indelible mark on the 2026 edition of the NIFF (Navarra International Film Festival), establishing itself as a true breeding ground for film professionals by winning major awards in various categories at the competition.

The highlight of the university delegation was the short film “La Creación,” directed by María Alejandra Vargas Bernal and produced by students in the “ Degree ” (Master’s in Audiovisual Communication) program at the “ framework ” (School of Audiovisual Communication) within the “ subject ” (School of Documentary Film). The film won the prestigious NIFF de Oro Award for Best Documentary Short, an accolade that recognizes the narrative and technical quality of this “ group ” (Young Talents) project, created by Valentina Valdez, Karen Guerra, Fabiana Custodio, and María López.

The faculty's talent was also recognized in the professional sphere and at professor. Filmmaker Itziar García Zubiri, an Fcom alumna, received the NIFF "Gente Maja" award and, as production director of the film "Los Domingos," accepted the NIFF "Valores Sociales" award on behalf of Alauda Ruiz de Azúa.

For his part, Fermín Gil Sánchez de Muniain, a professor at Fcom and member of the teaching internship unit, received the award award for Best Short Film from Navarre for “El Relevo” by Bárbara Fernández and David Mendizábal, project in which he served as teaching assistant of direction.

Joining the list of award winners group were María Acosta and Maite Turumbay, students in the Audiovisual Communication program at the School of Communication and Audiovisual Arts ( Degree ), who played an active role on the festival’s organizing staff, demonstrating our faculty’s full commitment to major film events in Navarre.
