The exchange stay is a unique experience that contributes to the academicdevelopment and staff if it is well focused and taken advantage of. It is an important decision, in which you have to take into account all the positives but also the challenges you face: studying in a new system and in universities perhaps very different from yours, living in another subject environment and accommodation, finding yourself far away from family and friends ... at final, leaving your comfort zone.

The programs of exchange try to make it easier for students to complete their training with the experience of studying and living in other parts of the world, transferring the student to carry out their activity through another language, in a different environment and from an alternative perspective.

These are the fundamental factors that you should take into account when considering a exchange.

You should investigate in detail the characteristics of each destination you are interested in, without getting carried away by the first impression or by the most superficial aspects. Not always the most famous destinations will be the most suitable.

One of the first factors to be taken into consideration is the language. You must be fluent in language in which you are going to take the subjects, so that it is not a big barrier and is the reason for poor academic result . Make sure you have at least the minimum level required for that destination. At section on "Process"You will find more information about languages at apply for .

Another important aspect is the academic calendar of the destination. If you have the option to go in any of the two semesters, make sure that there is no calendar conflict. In some destinations the academic calendar does not coincide with that of the University of Navarra and the student is the manager to manage the incompatibility in case of selecting that destination.

Your mentor or the person from your School or School in charge of advising you on the academic aspects of the exchanges will be able to advise you on the subject of subjects you should take in each destination, so that upon your return you can take validate qualification for subjects from your Degree.

Finally, as selection process is competitive, you may not get the destination you are most interested in. It is part of the experience to know how to be flexible and take advantage of the best of each place. Don't close yourself off from opportunities at other universities that may not seem so attractive to you at first.

If you are international, you already experienced this when you arrived at the University of Navarra. If you are Spanish, you should keep in mind that this subject stay is very different from other shorter or tourist stays.

Living and studying in another country is a challenge that sometimes implies that during several weeks you go through different phases in which you may have to face feelings of frustration, lack of integration, homesickness, disorientation. You should know that this is normal and temporary. You will have to be patient and you should discuss it both with your host university (in general, they will be able to provide you with someone to talk to) and with your mentor at the University of Navarra, who will also be able to provide you with support from a distance.

  • As soon as you accept the place you should be very attentive to the deadlines for presentation of documentation, management of visa, accommodation and enrollment in the host university since in last written request the student is the manager of these questions. The Exchange System between Spanish University Centres (SICUE) is a national programme of mobility for university students, promoted by Crue-Student Affairs and Crue-Internationalisation and Cooperation as a result of an agreement framework signed by the rectors of Spanish universities on 18 February 2000. This programme allows students enrolled at a Spanish university institution (home institution) to spend a semester or complete a full academic year at another Spanish university institution with which their home university has an agreement, with this stay having guarantees of academic recognition.

sicue_desplegable

  2. This exchange system takes into account its educational value by allowing the student to experience different teaching systems, including internships, as well as the different social and cultural aspects of other autonomous communities and cities.

  3. It is based on trust between institutions, transparency of information, reciprocity and flexibility.

  4. This is a programme of mobility which does not include funding.

  • Recognition of studies taken at host university will be automatic at home university.

  • For this purpose, it will be necessary that the host university will send to the academic coordinator of the corresponding centre of the University of Navarra, an academic certificate duly signed and stamped, which will include the grades obtained during the exchange.

  • Once the recognition has been carried out, it will be added to the student's transcript .

The student's mobility will be based on the Academic agreement , where the activity to be carried out at the host institution will be described and will be automatically recognised by the home institution.

The Academic agreement accepted by the three parties involved (student, sending and host institution) will have the official status of a binding contract for the signatories and can only be modified within 1 month from the start of the semester.

The duration of the stays will be half or full academic year, which will be determined by the academic organisation of each university.
