When architecture and nature come together through photography

At the beginning of January, the students of 3rd, 4th and 5th year of Architecture enjoyed the International Seminar 'The Architecture of Film: Between the real and the constructed'. Student Izaro Urizarbarrena tells us about her experience.

Last January, the students of the Degree in programs of study of Architecture carried out a seminar with the School's teacher Juan Luis Roquete and Mauricio Freyre as visiting professor. Izaro Urizarbarrena, one of the students of the Degree, he told us how he lived this experience:

"On the first day we received a class introductory discussion about the concept of photography and its history and along with that they explained to us the two exercises we had to do, one in group and an individual one. The goal of the work in group was to create a video of about 2-4 minutes talking about a topic on architecture's relationship with nature; The individual's goal was to create photographs, also of the same topic and focused on the campus of the University, and then choose one and make a exhibition with her inside the School.

On the second day they gave us theory and showed us examples of some videos or short films to give us an idea. The rest of the days consisted of preparing and doing the exercises, and finally on Friday we presented everything.

From my point of view, it was an experience with which I learned a lot both in the process of what it is like to take a photograph that is not just to press the button until it does, but to think about it, to know what you want to focus on, how you want to represent it... Like everything you have to think about to make a video, which needs a script, to convey a clear message".

As Juan Luis Roquete, the teacher in charge of the activity, explains, ''the core topic is that a photo within architecture can change space". In addition, "photography blends in with architecture and creates a space that alludes to the hidden world," adds Roquete.

The results of the seminar Photographs integrated into the architecture of the building itself are exhibited inside the School. This is how photography, architecture and nature come together.
