Among the activities organized for the seventh edition of the #LabMeCrazy! Science Film Festival is thislecture, entitled "The sublime usefulness of useless science, who will teach Pedro Miguel Echenique, 2026 award for Science award, which is aimed at doctoral students, young researchers, and professors at the University.
Pedro Miguel Echenique (Isaba, 1950) was one of the first students to earn a licentiate degree Physical Sciences from the University of campus Sebastián campus , where he graduated in 1972. He holds doctorates from the University of Cambridge and the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He is currently Full Professor of subject Physics at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU).
Among the many recognitions and awards he has received during his degree program , the Prince of Asturias Award for research and Technical research (1998) stands out. Echenique has also been president of the Donostia International Physics Center and CIC Nanogune. He is honorary president of Jakiunde, the Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters of the Basque Country. He has devoted considerable effort to promoting science as an economic and cultural activity and highlighting the importance of a scientifically informed society.
