Reinventing the flat-pack

The backless seats designed by the students were exhibited at entrance hall of the School.

The 3rd year students of design have developed for the subject of laboratory of creation II some flat-pack seats without backrest. Flat-pack furniture is a form of furniture that requires assembly by the customer after the purchase of the product. Therefore, they are assembled without glue, screws or nails.

Unlike other furniture subject , such as custom-made furniture, the main advantages of this solution subject are the ease of shipping and easy storage. In addition, they tend to have affordable prices. On the contrary, they are usually associated with poorer quality and leave durability due to the materials used, as well as complex assembly and a simple and limited design .

The students' result had to meet three main characteristics, being a stable, robust and functional seat. The exercise also included the design of the packaging of the object based on the FEFCO (European Federation of Corrugated Cardboard Manufacturers) code models.
