presentation of the book published by Ana Choperena (University of Navarra), María López Vallecillo (University of Valladolid) and Concha Germán Bes (University of Zaragoza) on the figure of Florence Nightingale. The inclusion in this work of certain topics such as her stance on gender inequalities in 19th century Victorian society, her ecological thinking, the ins and outs of the Crimean war or her most intimate religious position is not a trivial matter, but rather the clear decision to choose from her entire production elements that contribute to forming a more refined and current social outline and staff , with the aim of fill in the historical narrative of an essential phase for the professional nursing development .
This book belongs to the collection 'Astrolabio Mujeres', coordinated by network WINN of Institute for Culture and Society (ICS).

► May 10, 2023. Ethics of palliative care.
Session organized by the Pía Aguirreche Foundation with Dr. Rogelio Altisent. Dr. Rogelio Altisent, specialist in family and community medicine. Senior Associate Professor of Bioethics of the School of Medicine and director of the Chair of Professionalism and Clinical Ethics at the University of Zaragoza.
Understanding the aims of medicine is the core topic to interpret the ethics of palliative care. From this perspective it is possible to understand why clinical situations of therapeutic obstinacy and withdrawal in suffering occur. It also makes it possible to understand the need for intensive treatments for symptom control that could shorten life, such as palliative sedation. Respect for the patient's and family members' right to information can raise complex ethical issues. It requires a specific training on the part of professionals. We will also analyze the critical aspects of the Spanish euthanasia law and the social response to the suffering of vulnerable people.

Job stress, caregiving, family and work reconciliation are conflict situations that sometimes derive in threats to which nurses are exposed. In this session, we will discuss stress and some self-care techniques to deal with difficult situations. ► March 16, 2023. Palliative sedation as a good medical internship

In this session presented by Javier Rocafort, doctor of the Vianorte Laguna Foundation and professor of Palliative Care of the School of Medicine of the Francisco de Vitoria University, answers to some questions related to the decrease of consciousness as a medical treatment are given. What is the difference between palliative sedation and euthanasia? Can any doctor perform sedation? When is sedation indicated? Is there a right of the patient to be sedated? How many patients usually die under palliative sedation?

► January 24, 2023: Diary of a nurse. Life stories

We spoke with Beatriz Paloma, Alumni of the School and director of the area Hospitalization of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra, and with Marta López, illustrator and also a nurse, about her first book Diario de una enfermera (Diary of a Nurse). The book tells stories that a nurse has lived through over the course of a year.

January 18, 2023: "The Dying Process: School of Life".

Webinar organized by the Pía Aguirreche Foundation and given by Dr. Enric Benito, oncologist and expert in palliative care. Honorary Member of the Spanish Society of Palliative Care.
From the clinical experience of accompanying hundreds of patients, Dr. Benito reflects on death beyond the biological and biographical aspects, as a process of spiritual transformation, source of inspiration and vital wisdom. The lessons learned accompanying the dying process are summary in:

  • Dying does not hurt, suffering is existential and optional.

  • The dying process is a sacred and transcendent time, where we are authentically confronted with our essential nature.

  • Although each death is unique, there is a common pathway during the process.

  • We can die healthy and leave a bequest.

  • Accompanying in the process opens us to truth and vital wisdom.

The work as a team becomes essential, therefore, we will debate with Antonio Martínez, anesthesiologist of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra; Vanesa Salas, nurse and coordinator of project in the area transversal of innovation and research of nursing management in the Clínica Universidad de Navarra; Maite Sarobe, director of the Hospital Pharmacy Service of the Hospital Complex of Navarra; and Pablo Sáinz de Murieta, lawyer of the University of Navarra. Among other topics, we will discuss the Degree of responsibility of each profile in professional practice.

"The nurse facing bereavement".
Grief is one of the hardest experiences a person goes through, when it exists, it always involves suffering in the subject who suffers it and can be expressed in many different ways. The nurse takes on the role of accompanying grief, but do we know how to manage it? We will talk with Lori Thompson, board member of psychology of SECPAL and director of the Psychosocial Care Team of the Matía Foundation in the Program for the comprehensive care of people with advanced diseases of the "la Caixa" Foundation; and with Izaskun Andonegi, nurse, president and founder of Bidegin.

"Nursing in the face of suicide
School bullying, depression, drug use or the loss of a family member are risk factors that incite suicide. And although it is not a new problem, it has led to a rise in the number of suicides among adolescents, being the first cause of unnatural mortality among this social group . How can we face it from the point of view of mental health? What role does the nurse play in these cases? Is it decisive to implement the school nurse profile ? We will talk to Cristina Vidal, clinical psychologist at Clínica Universidad de Navarra, and Pablo del Pozo Herce, resident mental health nurse at the Fundación Jiménez Díaz University Hospital.
