Is it possible to cook on cardboard?

The kitchens of the 1st year Architecture students were exhibited in different parts of the School, as part of a collaborative project between multiple subjects.

The students of the 1st year of Architecture have created full-scale models of cardboard kitchens. Based on the kitchens of the Finnish architect Alvar Aalto, the students have developed the Structures that, for a couple of weeks, could be seen in different parts of the school.

The subjects that have participated in the project were: laboratory of Geometry and Form(Fernando Alonso, Elena Aparicio and Pilar Salazar), Physics(Borja Iraola), Construction Systems(Joaquín Torres and Lourdes Beneito) and Contemporary Art and Architecture(Álvaro Velasco).

For the teachers, result was very positive for all the subjects involved. "The inauguration of the exhibition was attended by two representatives from business Smurfit Kappa, which supplies us with cardboard, and they found it a very interesting exercise," explains Pilar Salazar, one of the teachers in charge of project.

"We believe that they have achieved the objectives we were aiming for. The students' impression is very satisfactory. They have also managed to develop organizational skills by having to coordinate in groups of 15 people who had to take on a large number of tasks," adds the teacher of the subject laboratory Geometry and Shape. "They made some presentations of each of the kitchens in which they manifested their communication skills. The level of detail they achieved was very interesting, which shows their interest," says Pilar Salazar.
