Architecture 4th and 5th year students attend WRLDCTY & The Bay Awards Summit

During their academic trip to Bilbao, they attended conferences focused on urban planning projects. Student Amaya Acarregui tells us about her experience.

On Wednesday, October 9, 4th and 5th year students of Degree at programs of study Architecture attended the event WRLDCTY & The Bay Awards Summit during their academic trip to the city of Bilbao. Student Amaya Acarregui shares her experience:

"Last Wednesday, October 9, 4th and 5th year Architecture students had the opportunity to attend to the WRLDCTY & The Bay Awards Summit event, a lecture focused on urbanism projects on topics related to sustainability, resilience, urban crises and the future of the cities we inhabit.

The day began with a series of lectures related to the current urban crises and the need for the contemporary urban design to be 'resilient and regenerative', understanding that today's cities suffer from a series of problems that must be faced, always keeping in mind not only the needs of today's citizens, but also those of future citizens.

This was followed by a series of debates featuring the finalists of the competition associated with the event. One per category was organized, each with three finalist projects.

In these sessions, each speaker had the opportunity to present its project, with the following themes

The main themes of the project range from the importance of promoting cultural initiatives in post-industrial areas as a methodology for social reactivation, to the relevance of analyzing the results of the dynamics and actions applied in the contemporary city in order to better understand the needs of citizens and the impact generated on them.

One of the most important lessons learned from the event was the importance of active and conscious citizen participation in all subject actions, regardless of their scale; understanding that the success of a strategy lies in its ability to meet the real needs of its users, and the importance of understanding that any action must take into account its impact on the future, since we have the duty to design sustainable cities and environments for our current and future societies.
