The third year students of the Degree in Design of the School of Architecture presented their collections of lamps created in the subject Creative Lab I and Design Studio V. The exhibition took place at Saltokiwhere they also conducted a brief lighting workshop with Estefanía Pagola. During the activity, he offered a historical tour through the components of different luminaires, exploring 60 years of evolution at design. This initiative is part of the activities organized by the School of Architecture thanks to the Chair Saltoki Foundation.
The project 'Luz', taught by the following teachers Amaia Zuazua Ros y María Duroconsisted of designing a collection of lamps that share a coherent visual identity and adapt to different spaces and lighting needs. The collection includes three types of lamps (table, floor, pendant and/or wall lamps) along with a 'special' piece.
Each student made a detailed research on issues of interest to the development of project, as well as the definition of concepts core topic and the development of ideas to respond to challenges of design and lighting. In addition, fundamental aspects such as sustainability and useful life of the object and materials, production feasibility, ergonomics, usability, functionality, among others, were emphasized. The project not only covers the design of the lamps, but also the packaging and the creation of a visual identity that includes the design logo. This approach allowed students to experience the complete development of a product, from its initial conception to its presentation to the public.
The partnership with Saltoki was an enriching experience for the students, giving them the opportunity to deepen their understanding of lighting and its components.
