Iranzu Fernández, recent graduate of the accredited specialization in Services of the Degree at design, opted for enrollment of honor with her work of Fin de Fin de Degree

Last Thursday, May 16, Iranzu Fernandez, recent graduate of Degree in design with accredited specialization in Services, presented her Final Project work Degree . This, focused on improving the experience of preadolescents hospitalized at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra (CUN), was one of the 7 TFG candidates for the enrollment of honor of the Degree in design of this course. To better understand his project, we have asked him order to explain his ideation process and results.

What does your TFG consist of?

My TFG has been developed in the pediatric inpatient unit at Clínica Universidad de Navarra (CUN), where I have focused on the humanization of the patient experience. My mission statement has been to create a hospital environment where pre-adolescents can develop meaningful social connections, find mutual support and cultivate a sense of belonging during their treatment, as well as provide opportunities for growth staff, celebrate achievements and build positive memories for promote the emotional and social well-being of these children. I have done this by adapting the camp concept to the status found in the hospital.

How did you come up with the idea for your dissertation?

When thinking about themes, I was very aware of the ecosystem I would be working with, as I wanted the project to be as realistic as possible. So, I thought of something I could be deeply involved in. Pediatric oncology is a topic that moves me and since I already had contact staff with this unit, I decided to work with CUN pediatric hospitalization.

What has been the most rewarding part of the process?

The most gratifying thing has been to see how the professionals, patients and all the people involved in the project have been so enthusiastic. Everyone has always been willing to participate in what I proposed: interviews, ideation sessions, prototyping... The result has been thanks to the fact that all these people have wanted to be part of my TFG.

What obstacles have you encountered along the way and how did you overcome them?

Perhaps the biggest obstacle has been that pediatric oncology is a difficult topic and I have been dealing with people in delicate situations. You have to be very tactful and take into account the status in which they are living at that moment. In addition, when working with children you also have to adapt to their understanding and interests. It is something I have enjoyed very much.

What have you learned while developing your dissertation?

I have learned to work in the most professional way possible, because not only the teachers, but also the whole team of professionals involved expected to see the result of project. I have tried to make it as realistic and feasible as possible so that it could have tangible future results.
