As part of the Circular Design subject , the 4th grade students of design visited last Friday, November 24, the facilities of the Traperos de Emaús and the Urban Waste Treatment Center of Góngora.
The excursion was the perfect opportunity to experience firsthand the need to reduce waste related to production and consumption habits and how, from design, one can contribute enormously.
In the Emmaus Ragpickers, in addition to seeing the social dimension of business, they were able to see how many objects are collected, repaired and put on the market, thus extending their useful life. In other cases, when it is not possible, some materials that can be recycled are recovered.
At the Góngora CTRU, after a session at internship on how household waste should be separated, they were able to learn about the process that plastics, packaging and cans follow for separation and subsequent sale to recycling centers.
Finally, they were able to see how waste that cannot be recycled reaches the landfill. In the words of the professor of the subject, Silvia Perez Bou, "it has been a way internship to encourage us to design thinking about the entire life cycle of the product".
