A recognition of Professor Lorda's work
The award SketchUp - Joaquín Lorda was created in recognition of the work of Professor Lorda (1955 - 2016) in the teaching of the History of Architecture at School of Architecture of the University of Navarra. His innovative teaching methods succeeded in stimulating students, who carried out their work using computer programs with highly satisfactory results. Inspired by compositions and forms of various historical traditions, he realized with students -organized in different teams, as in the old medieval guilds- large sets of fantastic architecture.
TO WHOM IS IT ADDRESSED?
This competition is aimed at all university students of Architecture and design (whatever their specialization).
This international and biannual award will recognize the best projects presented, either individually or in teams, or also teams led by a professor, of students of the Degrees of Architecture or design.
WHAT ARE THE PURPOSES OF THE CONTEST?
Promoting Trimble SketchUp programs
The award wants to promote the Trimble SketchUp software (once used by Professor Joaquín Lorda) which is ideal for stimulating the creativity of a future architect or professional design. SketchUp, easy to use, is suitable for designing expressive architecture, with suggestive forms and compositions.
Management of new technologies in the teaching
The main objective is to promote the use of new technologies in the teaching of the History of Architecture and related disciplines. After this learning, they can continue to be used in the professional internship , creating both real and fantastic architecture; with applications in theatrical, cinematographic or video game scenarios, to give some examples.
A stimulus to inspire projects
The university-wide student SketchUp drawing competition that this call for proposals provides an excellent platform to inspire projects and to create a space where teachers and software specialists can collaborate.
Designing 3D scenery with SketchUp
The task is to design Fantastic Architectures, i.e. to design and draw 3D architectural scenarios with SketchUp based on design or combinations of traditions from different periods in the History of Architecture, and to produce 3D virtual tours that allow users to walk through this fantastic architecture, providing more complete architectural and aesthetic experiences.

AWARDS
A First award of 1.000 € for the best project presented, as well as annual use licenses of the SketchUp program for the authors for the duration of their degree program, as well as other software products, in addition to the international diffusion of the winning work .
A 2nd award of 500 € for the second best project presented, as well as annual SketchUp software licenses for the authors for the duration of their degree program, as well as other software products, in addition to the international dissemination of the winning work .
Three runners-up prizes for the 3rd, 4th and 5th best projects presented, as well as annual SketchUp software licenses for the authors for the duration of their degree program, as well as other software products, in addition to the international dissemination of the winning work .
