The Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura has held the third edition of the International Fantastic Architectures Competition III award SketchUp-Joaquín Lorda. The quotation, dedicated to fantasy, the expression of creativity and international outreach, brought together about twenty students from the School of Architecture and the Instituto Tecnológico y de programs of study Superiores de Monterrey, Mexico, who attended the online quotation .
The project 'An eternal bequest , a renewed dream' evokes a majestic palace located in Al Andalus with pink and white tones and 3D dimensions. The jury has selected it as the winning proposal according to its "coherence, the composition of the whole and the careful work of the details", as well as the successful use of the different possibilities offered by the SketchUp program. The group is made up of Inés Hurtado, Victor Gimeno, Álvaro Osorio and Elisa Lechuga, 3rd year Architecture students, who, together with Ray Nieto, a student from Mexico, have been awarded 1,000 euros.
The second award went to the 'Allende' project , prepared by Patricia Edith Enriquez, Daniela Montelengo, Samantha Paulina Castillo and Luciana Sauma, Mexican students. Their proposal evokes traditional pre-Hispanic, Greek, Roman and Egyptian elements and the jury valued "the uniqueness of the report and its references". Its members received an award of 500 euros.
The jury also awarded runners-up prizes to the projects 'Trama', 'Shangri-La' and 'Palacio Grescoislámico' to different students of the School, who, like the winners, have an annual licence of the SketchUp program for the rest of the degree program.
The jury was formed by the director of the University's School of Architecture , Carlos Naya; Trimble SketchUp partner in Spain Julio Calle; architect and professor emeritus of the University's School of Architecture , María Antonia Frías; architect and COAVN training manager for Álava and Navarra, Daniel Maestu; and architect Pablo Arza, Deputy Director of Students and Office of Academic Affairs of the School.
Experimentation, creativity and work
The SketchUp - Joaquín Lorda award was created in recognition of the work of Professor Lorda (1955 - 2016) in teaching the History of Architecture at the School. "His innovative teaching methods succeeded in stimulating his students, who carried out their work using computer programs with highly satisfactory results. Inspired by compositions and forms from various historical traditions, he created with them, organized in different teams as in the old medieval guilds, large sets of fantastic architecture," explains María Angélica Martínez, coordinator of theART T&H research group .
The purpose of the award is to promote the use of the SketchUp software used by Professor Lorda. The tool stimulates the creativity of the future architect or design professional. "SketchUp, which is easy to use, is suitable for designing expressive architecture, with suggestive forms and compositions that, based on knowledge of historical traditions, facilitate rapid progress," explains the researcher. These techniques can have applications in theatrical, cinematographic or video game scenarios, as well as in the museum field and in the field of tourism.
