On May 20, the University of Navarra’s postgraduate program building postgraduate program Madrid hosted the submission entries for the seventh edition of the AMAD Awards, an quotation seeks to recognize architecture, renovation, and interior design projects that stand out for their innovative and sustainable use of wood.
The workshop, organized by AITIM, ASA, and ONESTA, along with the Chair Onesta Chair at the University of Navarra, awarded the “New Construction” category to the programs of study Architects + EOVA Studio for the Oceánika building, as well as to the programs of study Vivas Arquitectos and Exe Arquitectura for their project 56 social housing units in Barcelona. In the “Renovation” category, the Navarran firm B y E Arquitectos was recognized for its project the group headquarters.
Mireya Reguart, an architect and president of ASA, was in charge of submission . She explained that this year’s awards stand out for covering a wide range of geographic locations, structural types, and applications.
Reguart also noted that “wood has fit naturally into these projects, without being forced entrance, as just another material in applications where it offered better mechanical, aesthetic, economic, or time-related performance.”
The Future of Wood Construction
The event turned into a discussion the present and future of wood construction and architecture in Spain, with the gala focusing on the presentation the award-winning projects by their designers. In addition to the visual documentation, which has been published in issue 353 of AITIM magazine, the designers were able to delve into aspects such as the preparatory phases, preliminary designs, the construction process, and the finishes.
In addition to the main prizes, honorable mentions were awarded to the Batlle i Roig studio in the “New Construction” category for the Inspire office building; the Aurora Gómez Design studio received an honorable mention in interior design for its “Music project in Madrid” project ; and the Made V studio received an honorable mention in this category for its project Within a House” project .
