The exercise sought the resolution of a problem presented by the professors of the subject Taller de Proyectos I. As explained in the statement prepared by them, "the main focus of the exercise is the identification of space as subject of work of architecture even in an urban space such as the one in question. From the point of view of official document, it requires the mastery and manipulation of the staircase, one of the most important architectural elements, a reflection of the three dimensions of architecture".

He adds: "In a specific space, such as place de los Burgos, with a marked unevenness and unequal flows, it seems necessary to build a story about the use, the route, which ends up configuring this void in the city. The appearance of stairs or stairways, voids, volumes, will depend fundamentally on the decisions of each student".
