Some numbers from a School of letters
1,155 students from Degree, IFP, Master's Degree, doctorate and other programs
The School of Philosophy and Letters has had 1,155 students in its classrooms: 576 are students of Degree and double Degrees; 80, of the International Foundation Program (IFP); 114, of doctorate; 27, of Master's Degree; 88 of the Senior Program; and 270 of other programs and own degrees.
78 professors have taught class during this academic year.
The teaching for the 2023-24 academic year was taught by 78 professors: 26 full professors, 25 tenured professors, 8 tenure-track professors, 8 assistant professors, 1 visiting professor, 2 adjunct professors and 8 lecturers.
15 thesis defended during this course
A total of 15 people have read their thesis during the academic year 2023-24. Of these, 4 correspond to the department of History, Art History and Geography; 5 to the department of Philosophy; and 6 to department of Philology. Throughout its history, 1,119 thesis have been defended at School.
30 books published by our professors
During this academic year, professors from the three Departments have published more than 30 books of various kinds: Philosophy, politics, art, sociology, history....

In recent months, we have received more than 10 awards and recognitions to professors, alumni, students or projects of the School.
85 sessions given by 20 teachers in different educational centers
A total of 20 teachers have collaborated with the promotional activities organized by School in schools throughout Spain to raise awareness of academic programs.
goal In the framework of the "Training to train" initiative, which aims to offer teachers from high school useful content to complement the disciplines they teach at classroom, 5 sessions have been offered, with a total of 53 participating teachers.
On the other hand, teachers from School have given a total of 80 sessions related to history, Philosophy, archaeology and writing to schoolchildren from different educational centers in Spain.
218 internships managed
The area of Internships and employment of the School of Philosophy and Letters has managed this year 218 internships for students: 182 PAE (External Academic Internships); 3 Erasmus internships; 17 PIE (postgraduate program of Initiation to business); and 18 internships of the Program to Revitalize Rural Heritage. Throughout academic year we have also carried out individualcareer guidance with 175 students who have requested it. Likewise, the 27 sessions of training and workshops organized during the course were attended by 330 students.
4 new agreements of exchange
The School of Philosophy and Letters has signed 4 new agreements of exchange with the universities of St. Francis (New York, USA), Kaunas University of Technology(Lithuania), University of Padua(Italy) and University of Tartu(Estonia).
This is in addition to the 83 agreements that School has signed with institutions around the world (a total of 6 universities in Central and South America; 49 in Europe; 9 in Asia; 5 in Oceania; and 12 in the United States and Canada).
During this academic year, 20 students from School have participated in the exchange program and we have received 39 students from other universities in our classrooms, in this framework.
801 schoolchildren participated in the various activities
As every year, the School has hosted various activities aimed at secondary school students and high school diploma. issue The following is a list of the activities organized and the number of participants in each one: Geography Olympiad ( 26), Philosophy Olympiad (200), History Play (122), Excellence (409) and Literary Excellence (44).
On the other hand, 12 people have participated in the Shadowing Program that the School offers to those students with humanistic interests, so that they can get to know for a day, first hand, the different subjects that our students take in their respective Degrees.
48 students from other countries have participated in the summer activities organized by ILCE.
Once again this year, the Instituto de language and Spanish Culture (ILCE) has organized two summer courses for university students from other countries. Thirty-three students from Rice University and Kansas University attended Spanish classes and participated in various leisure, cultural and service-learning activities.
For their part, 14 non-Spanish-speaking students from 8 schools in the United States and one in Hungary, have approached the Camino de Santiago and Spanish culture through the summer course "Find your way. Walk the Camino". During 3 weeks, they have attended different sessions, have reinforced their level of Spanish and have walked several stages of the Camino de Santiago, from Roncesvalles, through Pamplona, to Logroño.
10 episodes of the podcast "With good words".
Because we need stories. Good stories. And we need someone to tell them. That's why this year we launched the podcast "With good words". Throughout 10 episodes, teachers of Degree in language and Spanish Literature have brought us some basic notions to get started in the world of writing, language and literature. You can listen to them here. They are also available on Youtube and Spotify.
6 curricular trips
The School of Philosophy and Letters organizes curricular trips as a formative complement to the programs of study that are taught. Last May, the 1st year students of Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) traveled to Brussels and Paris and the 2nd year students to Washington and New York. Professionals from the political, economic and social spheres gave various training sessions, in addition to getting to know some of the main public institutions.
On the other hand, a group of students from Degrees in language and Spanish Literature and Philology traveled to Seville and Madrid to participate in different Cultural Activities Office and literary activities, complementary to what was studied at classroom.
For their part, the students of the "Spanish Contemporary Art" subject visited the Prado Museum and the Reina Sofia Museum to get up close and personal with the works and authors studied at class.
Although these are not curricular trips, it is worth mentioning the trip of a group of students from Diploma in Archaeology to Tarragona to perform epigraphic autopsies at the National Archaeological Museum of Tarragona; and the trip that students from Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) made to Madrid, to participate in a course on Diplomacy and International Relations organized by the Diplomatic School of Spain and the Ramón Areces Foundation.
1st place in the QS ranking
The University of Navarra, issue 1 in Spain at Philosophy (tied with another university) and one of the top 100 universities in the world at area, according to the QS World Ranking by Subject 2024.
1 MCCC promotion
The Master's Degree in Christianity and Contemporary Culture already has a graduating class. Last June 19, 25 people celebrated their graduation ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Rosalía Baena, Vice President of Students of the University of Navarra; Julia Pavón, dean of the School; Mariano Crespo, director academic of the Master's Degree; and José María Torralba, professor and member of the board directive of the MCCC. Pablo Pérez, Full Professor of Contemporary History and professor at the MCCC, was elected sponsor of the graduating class.
337 attendees at the Prado Museum lecture series
For the eighth edition, the Fundación Amigos del Museo del Prado, at partnership with the School de Philosophy y Letras, organized the lecture series Francisco Calvo Serraller, a course held in some of the most important cities in Spain. A total of 337 people attended the sessions, given by experts from the national art gallery and other institutions.
13 students from School participate in archaeological excavations.
Aquinum (Italy), Ubrique (Granada), Ampurias (Girona), Guissona (Lleida), Noheda (Cuenca), Pollentia (Mallorca), Los Bañales (Aragón), Peralta and Belsino (Zaragoza). These 9 sites have witnessed the learning and growth of 13 students from School.
Throughout the summer they have had the opportunity to participate in the archaeological work being carried out. It is an experience that reinforces the knowledge acquired in the Degree in History and in the Diploma in Archaeology, as well as what they have learned in the Archaeology seminars organized during the 23-24 course, with 14 first level guests.
On the other hand, 14 students from 4th ESO, 1st and 2nd of high school diploma have participated in the activity "Archaeologist for a day", coordinated by Professor Javier Andreu, Full Professor of Ancient History and director of Diploma in Archaeology. At the Roman site of Los Bañales they have had the opportunity to carry out excavation work in the northern quarter of the Roman city together with university students from all over the world. They have also carried out works of laboratory and cabinet that has allowed them to approach the complete cycle of the archaeological research .
