Political and clandestine poetry
Mockery as an amusement and social weapon in the literature and culture of the Golden Age (II)

This project continues the investigation into the universe of mockery as a cultural and social weapon in the Golden Age. In the first phase (project FFI2017-82532-P MICINN/AEI/FEDER, EU, Identidades y alteridades. La burla como diversión y arma social en la literatura y cultura del Siglo de Oro, Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades-Agencia Estatal de research del Gobierno de España, 2018-2020) a general picture (necessarily incomplete) of mockery in the Golden Age was drawn from the perspective of its social and cultural functions in the framework of conflicts of all subject (ethnic, literary, religious, social, gender....), while working on the recovery of a textual corpus through various publications (especially the ten volumes of Antología de la literatura burlesca del Siglo de Oro).
This second phase focuses on the specific area of clandestine political satire poetry, with the objectives of recovering an anthological sample of texts, the most unknown and hidden to date of this genre of literature, and to examine their pragmatic contexts, given the characteristics of the genre, highly attentive to the circumstances of power and social and political conflicts.
From this perspective, the edition of a textual corpus corresponding to the reigns of Philip III, Philip IV and Charles II has been proposed, according to the methodology of the critical edition of texts, with the relevant phases and disciplines of meeting of testimonies, textual study, text fixation, philological annotation... taking into account the special quality of these compositions (anonymous for the most part, with variants and multiple adaptations that suppose a particular challenge for textual criticism and philological annotation). The edition itself is accompanied by different programs of study on the various significant aspects on the framework of a research characterized by mixed perspectives: linguistic, literary, historical and anthropological.
The project website aimed to disseminate the results of the research by means of 
publications (printed and electronic free access, in book form and in articles in specialized journals), which includes works on political satire in general and mockery as an entertainment and social weapon in the Golden Age. In this framework have been organized various congresses and scientific meetingswhich are also posted on this website.
