Authority and power in Golden Age theatre
Strategies, genres and images in early globalisation
This project of research is located in a broader study framework on the forms and models of authority and power in the Golden Age, and aims to focus in particular on the theater, mass spectacle, particularly Pass to transmit or question these models of authority and power.
It is also intended to apply techniques of scientific elaboration and dissemination of results that reconcile interdisciplinarily the classical Philology with developments of the digital Humanities , a field in which the members of the team also have experience and previous results that certify the ability to address these different aspects.
The main objectives are therefore basically
analyze the vision of power and its mechanisms (images, character models, themes, political doctrines, authorization techniques, use of artistic mechanisms and emotional catalysts such as music or festivities...) in different theatrical genres, both in the peninsula and in the Americas, where it plays a very important role as an instrument of confirmation of a new political and cultural regime.
observation of the viceregal theaterThis will facilitate the understanding of Baroque theater in its global dimension in the first cultural mix that the incorporation of the New World into Western history entails, with the contextual and social adaptations, etc., that the transmission of comedy to the Indies entails.
editing a selected list of significant textscomplementary to the programs of study. The main focus of the editions will be on an innovative proposal for the notes apparatus, in which an experimental technique of electronic apparatus with links to a whole series of Materials (image galleries, musical fragments, geographical illustrations, stage plans, objects, costumes, etc.) will allow a multiple exploration of the edited texts. For the editing itself, the techniques and methodologies of critical editing will be applied, a field in which the members of the team have a wide and proven experience.
development of a website which will host the texts, part of the programs of study, and a specific development of blogs, didactic videos and other materials, which will be integrated in the network GRISONET, of the group of research Siglo de Oro of the University of Navarra.
