network European: authority and power in the Golden Age
The project
After concluding the project subsidised by the Jerónimo Ayanz programme, the GRISO has been promoting and organising different activities in this line of work focused on the concepts of authority and power in the Golden Age. In this way, the project is still alive and producing new results.
We pointed out in the first phase the interest in extending our study to other manifestations of artistic and cultural subject , which began with two congresses that were also part of another series of GRISO activities in museums in Europe. meeting To these we should add the VI International Baroque Conference "Image of Power", an event of great importance in the Bolivian cultural and artistic sphere.
In this second phase we intend to organise a similar congress in Amsterdam, at the Rijksmuseum, with the partnership of the University of Amsterdam, which is one of the institutions proposed to join. The topic will focus on the creation of images of power and authority and the handling of propagandistic sources and materials for what can be called "paper wars", with special attention to the importance of the conflicts between Spain and the Netherlands in the shaping of the "black legend".
Another congress would be based at the new Portuguese partner institution, the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and would examine the perspectives and uses of grotesque techniques as a privileged aesthetic in the critique and erosion of the image of power in the conflicts of political and national rivalries.
Various meetings at work completed the programme, the results of which were to be published in a series of publications.
On the other hand, this year's goal is to incorporate new institutions to the network, namely the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, with a team led by Dr. Maria Fernanda Abreu; the Universidade do Minho, with a group under the direction of Dr. Cristina Osswald; the Universidade de Coimbra, with a group coordinated by Dr. Antonio Apolinario Lourenço from the Portuguese Literature Centre; and the University of Amsterdam, with a team under the direction of Dr. Antonio Sánchez Jiménez.
The University of Navarra's group de research Siglo de Oro (GRISO) obtained funding under the Government of Navarra's 2009-2010 training de research and development Plan (Jerónimo de Ayanz Programme) for this project entitled network Europea: autoridad y poder en el Siglo de Oro, which runs throughout 2011.
The topic of authority and power in the Aurisecular period has already been dealt with in depth by the GRISO in the Seminars it has organised with the University of Oxford, the Westfälische Wilhelms Universität (Münster) and the Université de le Sorbonne Nouvelle (Paris III) since 2007.
The goal of project is to expand the network of participating researchers, incorporating new European universities. We also intend to extend our study to other manifestations of artistic and cultural subject , since in the past editions of the permanent seminar the programs of study have focused mainly on the historical-literary perspective. In addition, we are also looking for an approach to the links in the treatment of the question of power in Europe in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
