Talking stones and images after the restoration of the Valtierra parish church

Last May 14, 2010 the Chair of Heritage and Art of Navarre, in partnership with the parish of Santa María de Valtierra, the Archbishopric of Pamplona and Tudela and the City Council of Valtierra, organized a roundtable after the restoration of the parish of Santa María Valtierra that took place in the temple itself. The parish priest Mr. José Miramón Martínez, as moderator, gave the floor first to Mª Josefa Tarifa Castilla, professor of Art History at the University of Navarra, who summarized the constructive history of this Renaissance temple, to then analyze it from the artistic point of view in plan, elevations, roofs and exterior, highlighting the exceptional corbels and capitals that embellish the building with a decorative program typical of the second third of the sixteenth century.

Ricardo Fernández Gracia, director of the Chair de Patrimonio y Arte Navarro, highlighted the importance of the movable heritage that the church treasures, especially the main altarpiece, begun by Juan Martín de Salamanca in 1577, one of the most outstanding in Navarre in the last third of the 15th century, due to its dimensions, its size and its abundant iconography.

Finally, the architect manager of the restoration of the parish, José Luis Astiz Díaz, showed through the display of 300 photographs, the process of the rehabilitation of the temple, focusing mainly on the tower, facades, roof and interior.
