visit guided tour to the exhibition "The passage of time through movement. Ciriza 1986/2011"

Mr. José María Muruzábal del Solar

The guided visit to the exhibition "The passage of time through movement. Ciriza 1986/2011", in the conference room of Exhibitions Conde de Rodezno Pamplona, was to position of its curator, the doctor Mr. José María Muruzábal del Solar.
Muruzábal began his explanation on the outside of the conference room of Exhibitions, where there is already a series of hanging pendulums that are part of the exhibition route, to once inside continue with the visit touring the different compositional stages of the artist.

The curator recalled that painting and sculpture are parallel arts in the development of the creations of Carlos Ciriza (Estella, 1964). In his early years, he developed his work with reflections close to the thinking of Richard Serra, Julio Gonzalez, Chirino, Henry Moore, Chillida and Oteiza. In the case of the latter two, the proximity is both geographical and in the spirit that animates his plastic art, where space is revealed as an essential and indispensable element in contemporary sculpture.

Since his first public exhibition in 1984, his work has been present in numerous galleries and institutions of international prestige. USA, France, Philippines, Portugal, are just an example of his stay in more than a hundred galleries where the public has enjoyed the artistic richness of his work. Ciriza's work is characterized by a continuous evolution in which restlessness and research make each project a unique work, his concern for the displacement of volume and the circulation of empty spaces are a constant in his projects.

His painting is directly interrelated with sculpture. In it, the author harmoniously shapes forms and small volumetric fragments, to which he combines masses of color and spaces in different planes, on murals, blackboards and paper.

But, undoubtedly, the best known of Carlos Ciriza's artistic production is sculpture. He has specialized in the installation of large-format sculpture for public and private spaces. His works are integrated in architecture, as well as in urban and natural environments (parks, squares, traffic circles, green areas and open spaces). He has important sculptural pieces installed in Spain, Europe and America.

The anthological exhibition sample , since September 2011, at conference room Conde Rodezno (Monumento a los Caídos), Pamplona City Hall, aims to be a review of the last 25 years of his production. In 1986, the production of a young artist who was barely over twenty years old was shown to the public of Navarre for the first time, at exhibition individual. The sample took place in the conference room of Conde Rodezno, managed by the Caja de Ahorros Municipal de Pamplona, which did so much for almost forty years for the promotion of the plastic artists of this land. No one could have predicted then the future that the young and inexperienced artist from Estella would have.

Twenty-five years later, Carlos Ciriza returns to his home in Conde de Rodezno. Time has passed and this can be seen in his person and in his work grade . He is no longer that inexperienced young man with a black beard; he is now a serene and balanced man with a gray beard. His work has also evolved. From those hesitant works, searching for a style, he has finally evolved into a complete artist, who investigates, searches endlessly, test...

The very degree scroll of the exhibition is enormously symptomatic. The poster that presents the sample indicates "The passage of time through movement". Indeed, time has passed, the artistic work has changed, matured and has been refined in forms and lines. But the passage of time has not been able to modify one of the essential values of this artist, which is movement. In his work we can analyze the materials, the oxidation, the volumes, the spaces, etc. But above all this, perhaps the great value of Carlos Ciriza's work, his true obsession, is movement.
