Introduction

The commemorative monument is one of the main artistic manifestations in Navarre during the 20th and 21st centuries. In addition to its aesthetic and formal value, due to its ideological component it becomes a speaking element that carries within itself the political, social or cultural load of the moment in which it was erected, in such a way that it comes to capture in stone, marble or bronze a way of being or thinking, a conduct to be followed or imitated, the idiosyncrasy on many occasions of a locality or of an entire community.

A tour of some of the commemorative monuments in Pamplona will give us an insight into the signs of identity of the capital and the whole of the Autonomous Community of Navarre, as well as the characteristic features of this type of monument: promoters, Materials, formal layout, subject matter and iconography.
