HERITAGE WITHIN EVERYONE'S REACH. FROM ROMANESQUE TO BAROQUE IN THE AREA OF TAFALLA
19 September 2005
Romanesque in Valdorba: Other churches. The Hórreo of Iracheta
D. Alberto Aceldegui Apesteguía
Organised by the Chair de Patrimonio y Arte Navarro and Tafalla Town Council.
The aim of Dr. Aceldegui's lecture was to address and show the architectural manifestations of Romanesque architecture in Valdorba, which is why he focused mainly on the council of Leoz, as it has the most varied manifestations of this art. First of all, he analysed the small churches with a single nave and straight chancel, all of which date from around 1200 and have very simple characteristics. He then studied the parish church and the Shrine of Our Lady of Fair Love of Oloriz, both also with a single nave but with a semicircular chancel and some innovations and Cistercian influences. Finally, he spoke about the Iracheta granary, its function, history and style, which is close to the Asturian style and, according to some authors, dates back to the 9th or 10th centuries.
