BRINGING HERITAGE CLOSER. TUDELA

2 September 2008

The recovery of the decoration of Tudela Cathedral.
Ms. Mercedes Jover Hernando. Chair of Heritage and Navarrese Art.

The organization and development of the conservation and restoration works of the abundant and varied goods that constitute the furniture and ornamentation of the cathedral of Tudela, as well as the general criteria that have governed each and every one of the interventions executed by specialists in the framework of the restoration of the interior of the cathedral of Tudela, executed by the Foundation for the Conservation of the Historical Heritage of Navarra between 2002 and 2006, were exposed to the numerous interested public in the framework of the cathedral's dependencies and with abundant images.

The different phases (disinsectation, protection, dismantling and transfer to the workshops, conservation and restoration treatment, storage and reinstallation in their places of origin or in situ treatment), which the goods have undergone, were shown, differentiated into two groups: those that were dismantled for treatment and those that remained covered until it could be carried out.

The importance of the maintenance of the important bequest of the cathedral of Tudela was highlighted, a task that begins the same day that the treatments are finished and in which the owners of the temple, the faithful and public administrations collaborate. Like the interventions, the maintenance must be carried out by specialized professionals.

Finally, it was pointed out the dissemination work that has accompanied these works, in the form of publications and conferences, work understood as the final phase of any intervention in Cultural Heritage.
