Imposition of the necklace on the saint, by Orrente in the Descalzos of Corella.

The Escudero chapel in the church of Carmen in Corella preserves one of the first large altar paintings, which became popular during the 17th century, replacing the old altarpieces with multiple divisions and of a narrative nature. This painting, signed by Pedro Orrente, arrived around 1639 and was destined for one of the chapels of board of trustees in the church. Shortly before this, another large canvas by Vicente Carducho had arrived to preside over the church of the Augustinian Recollect Nuns in Pamplona in 1632, and a little later another by Felipe Diricksen was installed in the Carmen Descalzo in Tudela (1642) and another by Carreño in the Trinitarians in Pamplona (1666). As can be seen, the religious orders played a major role in this fashion.

The Corella canvas represents one of the visions of the saint, specifically the one narrated in chapter XXXIII of the book of her life, the text of which reads: "It seemed to me, being thus, that I saw myself wearing a garment of great whiteness and clarity, and at first I did not see who was dressing me; then I saw Our Lady on the right side and my father Saint Joseph on the left, who were dressing me in that garment; she gave me to understand that I was already cleansed of my sins. When I had finished dressing, and I was in great delight and glory, Our Lady seemed to grasp me by the hands; she told me that she was very happy to serve the glorious Saint Joseph... it seemed to me that she had put a very beautiful golden necklace around my neck, with a very valuable cross attached to it. This gold and stones are so different from what we have here, that there is no comparison.... The beauty I saw in Our Lady was very great, although I could not determine any particular figure, but the whole board face, dressed in white with a very great radiance, not dazzling, but soft. I did not see the glorious Saint Joseph so clearly, although I saw that he was there... it seemed to me that I saw them ascending to heaven with a great multitude of angels".
