The collateral altarpieces

Flanking the main chapel are two twin altarpieces that were made by Bartolomé Calvo in 1654. They were finished a year later. They are dedicated to Saint Peter, on the Gospel side, and to Saint Anton on the Epistle side. They consist of a pedestal, a single body with a central box flanked by paired Corinthian columns, and an attic crowned by a semicircular pediment. The pinjantes, bunches of fruit, garlands, fleshy scrolls, gallons and avoluted split pediments lead us definitively to the Baroque, although still of classicist dyes. The original polychromy of the masonry stands out.

The altarpiece of St. Peter hosts in the bank the scene in relief of the submission of the keys between pairs of apostles and saints. In the body is the image of the patron saint. With very worked hair and beard, he carries keys in his right hand and a book in his left hand. He wears tunic and mantle with a beautiful original golden polychrome, stewed and with details in green and ochre tones. In the attic a relief narrates his martyrdom in a very baroque composition, where the cross is arranged diagonally between several characters.

On the other hand, that of San Antón presents on the bench several scenes related to the life of the saint, such as his martyrdom, the death of St. Paul the hermit, or some temptations, again among saints and apostles. The titular is a beautiful sculpture of an old man, with a long bearded face, wearing a white habit and scapular and a cape with a dark brown cape and hood, with golden details in the polychrome. He carries a book and a staff and is accompanied by a little pig at his feet. A relief of St. Anton tempted by demons in the attic completes the set.
