Lesaca: more than 350 years of history

The imposing town hall -according to a registration- was erected in 1664 thanks to the designs of the stonemason Juan de Alzate and the good work of a certain "Pildirike", in one of the fronts of the place Vieja, where in the past criminals were subjected to public scorn. In any case, an eighteenth-century reform substantially altered the essence of the building, giving it its present appearance.

Its facade, horizontal and in gray stone, contrasts clearly with the yellow stone ashlars that surround the openings, the corners and the upper cornice. It has three levels: base, articulated by arcades that open to the place through semicircular arches, and two floors: the first consists of a continuous balcony resting on stone corbels and with a single access door, flanked by windows; and in the second, the balcony covers the five openings that alternate doors (in the center and sides) and windows.

Its last restoration, carried out in 1987 under the direction of architects Manuel Íñiguez and Alberto Uztárroz, incorporated a double wooden eave that sits on a stone molding, and remodeled the vestibule, which houses a wooden staircase covered with a cupola.
