Choir

At the foot of the Gothic nave, and built in the same period, is the choir, set high above three pointed arches and two pillars that articulate the choir loft in three sections covered by ribbed vaults. In the choir loft, in the gable wall, there are three flared windows with three-lobed pointed arches, while in the chancel there are two windows with pointed arches framing a central oculus.

Like the rest of the nave, the choir and choir loft are richly decorated with sculptures, largely indebted to those found in the cathedral cloister of Pamplona. Thus, in the former, the parapet is articulated by means of a beautiful stone parapet with highly moulded tracery of quadrilobules inscribed with trilobules, and above it, two ceroferary angels as lecterns. A greenman, the Agnus Dei, and the eagle of Saint John are placed in the keystones, while the baskets and capitals of the pillars and pilasters are decorated with vegetal elements, human figures and fantastic animals, including scenes from the life of Samson.

In the choir there is a rich rococo wooden choir stalls made in 1774 by Juan Antonio Bescansa and Manuel Martínez de Ontañón, according to a design by Juan Angós. It has 23 seats with Marian themes inscribed on their backs, including the Assumption, the Apostolic high school presided over by the Virgin, the Transfiguration, the Pieta, the Wedding at Cana, the Flight into Egypt, Jesus among the Doctors, the Sorrowful Virgin, Solitude, the Ascension, Pentecost and the Coronation of the Virgin.
