The chapel of San Fermín

The exterior

The exterior of the Chapel of San Fermín shows its Baroque conception in elevation, with a Greek cross inscribed in a square, the whole embraced by a double wing with the pretensions of a palace, on two floors, the lower one in stone with large arcades, and the upper one in brick and with straight openings, one and the other with grilles. The headwall and the adjoining wall have two oculi (which had previously been rectangular windows, as is evident from their imprints) between the heraldic arms of the City of Pamplona, in ceramic on highlights. The walls, delimited by pilasters at their angles, end in triangular pediments, with blind oculi in their tympana. Here the brickwork is perfectly worked, especially on the cornices, which, as they have curved mouldings, required moulds to be pressed. The octagonal drum rises above, with rectangular windows topped by triangular pediments, and with a cornice, each of whose facets is decorated with six corbels. The crowning glory is the lantern, rebuilt in 1823-1824, which ends in a metal cross.
