Banking, a sector with new opportunities

During the last edition of the Career Management Week, the alumni of the School working in the Finance, Banking and Financial Regulation sector shared their experiences in the job market with the students. Most of alumni agreed on the fact that banking is a sector in transformation where new opportunities are being generated. 

The alumni stressed to the students the need to know what they like best before going out into the job market. The participants of the roundtable recommended to those interested in the world of Finance to acquire the specific technical knowledge of the sector, for example: a CFA level 0, knowledge of SQL programming and the correct handling of spreadsheets. 

Along the same lines, Elsa Martinez (ECO'04, MEF05) advised students to specialize through a Master's Degree, such as the Master's Degree in Banking and Financial Regulationas she considers that financial regulation is a strategic area that is growing. In turn, Martinez assured that the Master's Degree of Economics and Finance of the School is interesting for those people who wish to write a doctoralthesis , since, it is a Master's Degree that offers a good quantitative training .

The roundtable was composed of: César Ozaeta (ECO '07), Investment manager/analyst at Abante Asesores; Javier Martínez (ADE '14, MBRF '16), Consultat. Banking & Financial Services at PWC; Laura las Hayas (ADE '14, MBRF '15), Portfolio manager at Altamar Capital; Luis Hernández Guijarro (ECO '99), management of socially responsible funds at Esfera Capital; Jose Luis Espelosín (ADE '11), Finance Controller at Opel; and Elsa Martínez (ECO'04, MEF05), Financial Regulation at BBVA.
