On May 31 and June 1, the University of Navarra hosted the V Forum of the association de Lingüística del speech, an activity that is held annually to share and disseminate the research of its members. On this occasion, it has been organized together with the project 'Public discourse' of the Institute for Culture and Society and the department of Philology of the School of Philosophy and Letters of the University.

The event was organized around three discussion sessions: 'El speech de la persuasión: manifestaciones y límites', moderated and coordinated by Carmen Marimón(University of Alicante); 'Nuevas perspectivas en el análisis del speech: multimodalidad y formas de codificación discursiva', moderated and coordinated by Antonio Hidalgo(University of Valencia); and 'Análisis del speech, salud y enfermedad. research y training de profesionales', moderated by Ramón González(University of Navarra).

The goal of the first session was to explore different aspects of the discursive expression of persuasion: the linguistic mechanisms of persuasion in the speech, the rhetorical Structures , the genres of persuasion (political, advertising, scientific, media, etc.), the limits of persuasion (manipulation) and multimodal persuasion (gesture and language; image and speech).

Catalina Fuentes, from the University of Seville, addressed issues related to the linguistics of persuasion and Xavier Laborda, from the University of Barcelona, did so in relation to persuasive genres. The presentation also introduced concept and the topic of limits (manipulation).

The second session of discussion focused on the multimodality of speech, which consists of the incorporation of multisemiotic elements in the process of planning, elaboration, production and analysis of speech. This involves nonverbal and paraverbal communication, as well as a set of semiotic systems (image, music, text-image relationship, etc.) and a series of discursive components that can affect oral or written messages.

It was led by Ana María Cestero Mancera, from the University of Alcalá de Henares, and Eladio Duque, from the Complutense University of Madrid. One of the interventions focused on non-verbal and paraverbal aspects and the other on the relationship between text and image and their implications in the transmission of written discourses. Thus, the two fundamental areas of speech, oral and written, were covered.

The third session was led by Antonio Bañón, from the University of Almería, and Carlos Centeno, researcher principal of the ATLANTES Program of the ICS. In their interventions, the three levels of relationship between health and speech that Bañón points out were present: the speech as a demonstration of health or disease, the speech as tool generating health or disease, and, thirdly, the speech as a manifestation of a certain social construction of health and disease.

In the first intervention, an overview of programs of study on speech and health was presented, as well as some current and prospective focuses of interest. Likewise, some practical orientations that the research from Linguistics on speech and health has had or should have in the future were discussed. In the second intervention, Carlos Centeno dealt with communication on palliative care in different contexts: doctor-patient-family members, media-citizens, etc.
