Pharmacists XXI' addresses issues related to branded and generic drugs

The Pharmacy students of the Entrepreneurship Club promote this educational activity, in the framework of the Chair Bancaja of the Foundation business University of Navarra.

The second edition of the lecture series "Pharmaceutics XXI", organized and promoted by students of the School Pharmacy of the University of Navarra, has brought students closer to issues related to generic drugs and the liberalization of pharmacy, among others. This extracurricular activity, which is part of the plan of activities of the Chair Bancaja of the Foundation business University of Navarra, begins to consolidate in the School with continuity.

On this occasion the goal of the sessions was twofold: on the one hand, continuing and respecting the entrepreneurial facet of the cycle, we wanted to present, first hand, one of the employment opportunities that has been promoted by the different administrations, such as the creation of technology-based companies. On the other hand, the aim was to clarify certain issues that have generated great social discussion over the last year, in relation to brand or generic drugs and the liberalization of pharmacy.

The current CINFA Innovation director , Julio Maset, who worked for years at Schering Spain, explained in his speech how, throughout history, the expiration of patents has allowed technology to advance, and encouraged not to question the quality of generics, since, in order for them to be marketed, they must be bioequivalent to brand-name drugs.

high school For her part, Pilar García, president of the Official Pharmacists' Association of Navarra, pointed out the great difference between the liberalization of pharmacy and the free professional practice that exists in Navarra. She also explained the important healthcare work carried out by pharmacists in pharmacies, and concluded by pointing out that the model liberalization of pharmacies in Anglo-Saxon countries would have no place in Spain.
