The publication Revista de Medicina de la Universidad de Navarra has published a monographic issue on colorectal cancer, directed by Dr. Salvador Martín Algarra, director of the department Oncology Department of the University Clinic. Nine scientific articles are published in it, in which 26 specialists from the Clínica Universitaria and the Hospital Clínico Universitario de Valencia have participated, analyzing various aspects of this disease, defined in the introductory publishing house as "Colorectal cancer: a silent epidemic".

Researchers from laboratory of Biotechnology of the Clínica Universitaria de Navarra wrote three articles on basic aspects of the carcinogenesis process, genetic risk of cancer and chromosomal alterations present in colorectal cancer ("Colonic carcinogenesis: Process of neoplastic transformation", "Susceptibility Genetics in colon cancer" and "Cytogenetic alterations in colorectal cancer"); and three other articles related to new methods of detecting the disease in patients who have already undergone surgery and on ways of approaching oncological therapy in these patients ("Clinical value of detecting minimal residual disease in colon cancer", "Pharmacogenomics in colorectal cancer" and "The EGFR factor receptor as a therapeutic target").

Next, specialists from department of Radiodiagnostics analyze the contribution of this technique in the article "Radiology and colorectal carcinoma" and experts from department of Oncology review the current status of "Radiotherapy in locally advanced rectal cancer".

Finally, several professionals from the Hematology and Medical Oncology Service of the Hospital Clínico Universitario de Valencia will give an update on "Colon and rectal cancer: current concepts in pathogenesis, early diagnosis, extension study, prognosis and treatment".

Revista de Medicina de la Universidad de Navarra is a quarterly medical journal academic publication , in which specialists and researchers in the field of Health Sciences publish original research articles, clinical cases and reviews on medical topics. Recently, its committee publishing house has decided to periodically publish special issues dedicated to monographic topics. The next issues will focus on vertigo, obesity and lung cancer.
