Avant-garde and excellence go hand in hand in Metamorphosis Dance's new show. CreAcción Metamorphosis Dance's new show, whose world premiere will take place at the Museo Universidad de Navarra this Saturday, 6 November, at 19:30, as part of the Museo en Danza cycle. This is their first work after Iratxe Ansa, director and choreographer of the company together with Igor Bacovich, has been awarded the National Dance Prize award 2020. Tickets cost 26, 24 and 22 euros.

The piece sample the result of the research that Ansa and Bacovich have made as part of the residency program artistic programme of Performing Arts and Music of the Museum. A group of eleven non-dancers took part in a seven-week process with the company, during which they explored their concerns and how to transfer them to the body, to dance, in a performance with high quality standards. The initial challenges were the relationship between the creative process and the audience, the correlation between the idea and its dance representation, and the proximity of contemporary art to the concerns of the public.

"The show will reflect many of the results of the conversations we had with group at work and between us. What you will see on stage will be choreographic language, which is result of concepts that come from what was proposed at the beginning of the process, as well as choreographic and scenographic decisions", explained Igor Bacovich at the presentation of the proposal, in which Iratxe Ansa; Teresa Lasheras, director of Performing Arts and Music at the Museum; and Natalia Riva, Jorge Vázquez and Nora Franco, participants in this creative process, also took part.

The driving force of the piece was the ideas or concepts that each of the participants shared with group, totally different proposals. "It was complex to draw a dramaturgical line, so the starting point was to spin not the concepts themselves, but the choreographic materials that emerged from them. Each concept was materialised in the dancers' bodies, choreographic materials were created and we spun them. This was the initial mass with which we developed the piece", says the choreographer.

MOBILISING EMOTIONS

In this sense, Ansa pointed out that a creation involves tackling very diverse issues: "There are many creations within a creation and each dancer is one". In total, there will be five dancers on stage, with a set designed especially for the piece and the soundtrack by Juan Belda. For the choreographer, it has been fundamental "to share and learn from these exchanges and to question ourselves all the time. We think about how to make each idea make sense and be essential within the piece". Thus, she explains that there are no "exact ideas to understand, but we want each person to fly".

Some of the concepts that were worked on were doubt, search and perseverance to achieve a goal goal. This last concept was the one that Natalia Riva took to group at work, based on the song Tracción a sangre, by Gustavo Cerati. For her, a researcher at the School Pharmacy, the process has been particularly significant for its transformation. "It's magical to see that from an idea of something that perhaps I didn't want to see, that was hidden, something beautiful and that mobilises so many emotions". Jorge Vázquez, a student at School of Architecture, said that the experience made him "think not only about the movement, but also about what was around the stage". For Nora Franco, "it has been a good fortune to be able to see the creative process and decision-making of a professional dance company and to work with its directors and dancers. We have been able to see how an idea was transformed into a body".
