The European Center for Injury Prevention of the University of Navarra will award this the award on May 13.

After a process of anonymous assessment of the works presented, the Jury of the I award to the research in Nursing Memorial Mª Teresa Díaz has decided unanimously to award the award of the present edition to Mrs. Mónica Vázquez Calatayud, for her work: "assessment of the satisfaction with the nursing care in the area of hospitalization of cardiology".

Vázquez has worked for years in the Intensive Care Unit of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra and currently works in the area of development Professional and training in Nursing of this Clinic.

The Jury was composed of Dr. Navidad Canga and Dr. Mª Jesús Pumar from School of Nursing at the University of Navarra and Dr. Francisco Guillén from Clínica Universidad de Navarra.

Objectives of the award
The award Memorial María Teresa Díaz aims to encourage research excellence by recognizing the quality of a work prepared by a nursing professional who is evolving from internship care to research university.

It is endowed with one thousand euros, and national and international researchers, with a minimum demonstrable experience of five years in the clinical internship before starting their research activity, have applied for it.

Expert in the adverse effects of patient care
The new award is convened at report of Professor María Teresa Díaz Narvalaz, who passed away in May 2010 at the age of 55. She was a collaborator of the European Center for Injury Prevention, a nurse at the Preventive Medicine Unit of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra and a professor at the School de Enfermería. She also contributed significantly to the research on adverse effects of patient care with her work of doctorate at the University of Sheffield (UK), under the co-direction of Dr. Watson and Dr. Seguí-Gómez.

In 2009 María Teresa Díaz Narvalaz joined the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva (Switzerland), to lead a project on safety in Intensive Care Units in Spanish hospitals. At the same time, she carried out a research on medication administration in Nursing, the errors produced in this area and their prevention.

According to the director of the European Center for Injury Prevention, María Seguí-Gómez, this recognition aims to "honor the report of people capable of leaving the security of an already consolidated profession to reinvent themselves as researchers in order to be more efficient and thus improve the healthcare system and the care of people".
