 Dr. Ignacio Sánchez-Carpintero, specialist of the department of Dermatology of the University Clinic of the University of Navarra, has been appointed coordinator European physician of the Vascular Birthmarks Foundation (USA) "This foundation has among its missions to advise patients requesting information on hemangiomas and vascular malformations and to put them in contact with centers and professionals dedicated to this pathology.

"The Vascular Birthmarks Foundation has a website that receives thousands of queries from patients all over the world," explains the specialist from the Clínica Universitaria. As coordinator European, Dr. Sánchez-Carpintero advises from Spain on the diagnosis and treatment of cutaneous vascular lesions.

Specialist in Hemangiomas and Vascular Malformations

Dr. Sanchez-Carpintero specializes in vascular anomalies and infantile hemangiomas and other benign skin tumors in children and adults, as well as melanoma. He recently received the first scholarship from the Vascular Birthmarks Foundation for the study of Hemangiomas and Vascular Malformations. "Thanks to this scholarship -she comments- I was working in Little Rock (Arkansas, USA) with Dr. Milton Waner and in Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston) with Dr. Martin Mihm on a project related to patients with hypertrophy of the lips associated with capillary malformations of the skin, also known as flat angioma or 'port wine stain'". 

The clinicopathological study includes a total of 24 patients and will be published soon. "It has also allowed me to work on a project related to the topical application of a new drug in infantile hemangiomas, a study that we will continue to develop at the University Clinic as soon as approval is obtained," he concludes.
