The award Nacional de Danza Antonio Ruz showed photographs of 20th century authors from the University of Navarra Museum Collection to the dancers Irene Tena and Albert Hernández, from the Ballet Nacional de España. "Now, improvise," he asked them. Thus began to take shape Transmutación, the new creation of Ruz, which arises from his residency program in the Museum and that will premiere this Saturday 9, at 19:30 pm, in the cycle Museo en Danza, sponsored by Obra Social LaCaixa, Fundación Caja Navarra and INAEM.

The dancer and choreographer explained the keys to this work in the presentation of the second edition of this cycle focused on the current creation of contemporary dance, which runs from 7 to 28 November at the Museum. In the meeting has been accompanied by Javier Arana, director attachment Museum, and Teresa Lasheras, assistant to the José Manuel Garrido, director artistic Performing Arts and Music.

"The degree scroll evokes the process, how a photo can inspire a choreography. I chose a series of photographs in which there is movement, action, and the body is very present," says Ruz. They are works by Dolcet, Masana Fargas, Catalá Roca, Colom i Altamir, Nyssen, Mariné and Ortiz-Echagüe. Some images by the latter artist, such as the sheltered women, had already inspired him for his previous work, Electrafor which he was awarded the award National Dance Award in the Creation category. "It was perfect to overturn that visual, human, folkloric and costume richness of those characters that Ortiz Echagüe rescued and treasured with his work".

About Transmutation, he emphasizes that it has "a character of improvisation, of process, in which the public will be guided through the rooms of the museum through different choreographies, transitions and sound. It is a very evocative work and we want it to be a trigger for spectators to imagine the process," says the choreographer.

In this line, the Museum's director attachment stressed that creations like this one are in line with the Museum's DNA, which "seeks the connection between the visual and performing arts. It is an honor that artists find inspiration in our Collection source ". He also emphasized that these works "respond to the Museum's vocation to be a place of artistic creation".

SHOW AND DANCE CHOREOGRAPHY

In addition to Transmutation, Ruz opens the series this Thursday at the Theater, at 7:30 p.m., with Presenta work that he has made with his company: "It speaks of the present we are living. It is a choreographic and scenographic work in which the performers build the scenic space in a mutant, philosophical and almost psychological way. It is full of symbolism, with custom-made music and costumes".

Finally, on Sunday, Antonio Ruz will maintain a special meeting with the public, on the stage of the Theater, accompanied by the dancers Irene Tena and Albert Hernandez. It will be a danced lecture in which will be represented excerpts from Electra and in which the choreographer will share his creative career. "We will do it as essay. I will correct them, give them indications and then we will play the music and they will dance. Electra is a work in which the arts dialogue. There are dancers, but also film, photography, painting and an orchestra in the pit," says Ruz.

A CYCLE DEDICATED TO CONTEMPORARY DANCE

Teresa Lasheras stressed that precisely one of the objectives of the Museum in Dance is "to help creators and invite an artist each year to create a new work inspired by the Museum's Collection", as well as "to bring dance closer to the public" and "to show the panorama of contemporary dance in Spain". In this sense, in addition to the shows, meetings have been scheduled with artists to learn how they work the different trades that are part of the world of the performing arts, such as choreographers, dancers, costume designers, and learn firsthand about their career.

In addition to Antonio Ruz, the cycle will feature some of the most outstanding companies and artists on the national stage, such as the world premiere of No hay flores inútilesby Elephant in the Black Box Company, a piece about women in exile after the Spanish Civil War.

Works from the Canary Islands will also be on display: Bending the Walls y Beyondby Lava Compañía de Danza, whose artistic director , Daniel Abreu, will maintain a meeting with the public; and Las alegríaswhich will be performed by Paula Quintana. Also, the focus will be on inclusive dance with Trasunto #2, by Chilean choreographer María Siebald, who works with deaf dancers and has choreographed six contemporary poems in sign language. In exhibition halls, Matxalen Bilbao will present Fugas + Serenity Suite and Taiat Dansa will present No Half Measures. In addition, Ana Cabo and Jean Philippe Dury, from Elephant in the Black Box Company, will give a workshop on how to produce and create a contemporary dance show based on the show No useless flowers.
