New Double Master's Degree in Architecture and Sustainability in Madrid

The next academic year 2020-21 the School of Architecture will offer this double program that will allow to obtain the qualification and the specialization program in Sustainability in 15 months.

The next academic year 2020-21 the School of Architecture will offer at the campus in Madrid the new Double Master's Degree in Architecture and Sustainabilitywhich is the sum of the programs of the Master's Degree University Degree in Architecture and the Master's Degree in design and management Environmental Buildings.. In this way, the student will obtain the qualification to practice as an architect in Spain, at the same time as the specialization program in the area of Sustainable Architecture.

According to Héctor García-Diego, Deputy Director of Office of Academic Affairs , "this new program offers architecture graduates the possibility of completing two master's degrees ( Master's Degree in Architecture and Master's Degree in design and management Environmental Buildings) in just 15 months".

"The irruption of the model of Degree with Master's Degree enabling has discouraged B the specialization, as recently graduated architects, after 6 years of training and the achievement of a Master's Degree, want to join the professional world as soon as possible. At the School we believe that this program will help our students to access the labor market with the best guarantees. In addition, the training plan that combines the professional training , the training at management and the specialization at design sustainable makes us pioneers", underlines Deputy Director.

For his part, the director of the Master's Degree University of Architecture, José Ángel Medina, adds: "The double Master's Degree provides the professional qualification of architect and the training in sustainability issues. In other words, it is an opportunity to unite the generalist and specialist aspects in a single program. In this sense, it develops the model that the School started with the Master's Degree University Degree in Architecture, which enables professional qualification while including a program in management of projects and business with academic staff from IESE. This double Master's Degree consolidates this path and makes possible other new programs with new specializations".

Finally, Ana Sánchez-Ostiz, director of the University Master's Degree in design and management Environmental Buildings, highlights the fact that the Double Master's Degree provides "a specialization in Sustainable Architecture, which allows the student to face the challenge of reducing the impact on the environment and on people's health produced by cities and buildings. A challenge that becomes an opportunity, as it is a area with a great career prospects".

"Compared to other training programs," emphasizes the MDGAE director, "it has three distinguishing features: its commitment to a design that integrates architecture and sustainability, and that delves into the efficiency of the measures adopted in the projects; its academic staff and internationalization, as it incorporates professors from the School, IESE and professionals and teachers from other countries, to provide a global vision of sustainability and the suitability of design to different climates and contexts; and the internships and the final work of Master's Degree in companies in the sector, where the student applies the knowledge and skills acquired in a real work environment, which facilitates high employability".
