Moses and Elijah speak with Jesus: Pentateuch and historical books

publishing house Verbo Divino
Collection: programs of study Bíblicos
ISBN: 978-84-9073-260-1

The Pentateuch and the historical books of the Old Testament contain reading keys that illuminate the understanding of the New Testament. That Jesus begins his public life in the Jordan and preaches from the mountain, does it not evoke the figure of Moses? Does not that voice from heaven that at the Baptism and the Transfiguration says "this is my son, the beloved" recall what Abraham heard asking for the sacrifice of Isaac: take "your son, the beloved"?

This work offers a reading and study guide of the Pentateuch and the historical books of the Old Testament, which harmoniously integrates the results of the most recent historico-critical programs of study about these books, their canonical reading, their echoes in the New Testament, their re-readings in Rabbinism and primitive Christianity, with their essential theological, pastoral and liturgical dimension.
