Three professors of Pharmacy, with scholarships from the Ministry of Health, have been Education
Pilar Lostao, Diana Ansorena and Alfredo Martínez, from the University of Navarra, will be able to spend time abroad at research .
Pilar Lostao, from the department of Food Sciences, Physiology and Toxicology of the School of Pharmacy of the University of Navarra will use the scholarship to study the functioning of a new protein responsible for introducing glucose into cells, which is found in certain solid tumors as well as in adipose tissue, and which could be involved in the development of obesity and cancer. "I'm going for 3 months to department of Physiology at the David Geffen School of Medicine, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)," he said.
Two other professors from the same department have obtained the same financial aid from the Ministry of Education: Diana Ansorena and Alfredo Martinez. "The small project in which I am going to participate at the University of Bologna is related to the study of the oxidation of certain compounds present in food fat (sterols). The aim is to see, through model systems, which factors have the greatest influence on the training of these oxidation compounds, which are harmful to health, since they are related to the development of cardiovascular diseases," explains Diana Ansorena.
